Perth is the capital of the Australian state of Western Australia. Perth is located on the west coast of Australia near the Indian Ocean, at the mouth of the Swan River. The modern metropolis of Perth is a great place to relax before exploring the great expansive West of Australia. Perth is a young city that continues to evolve. The Perth city centre has been revitalized over the years adding more cafes, restaurants and small bars. The mega waterfront development, which looks like a mini-version of Darling Harbor in Sydney, is sure to add a lot to the city.

Perth has an attractive setting on the Swan River and nearby to several stunning beaches that are a lot less crowded than its east coast counterparts, which also adds tremendous appeal.

Rottnest Island

In Perth you can take the ferry to visit Rottnest Island to take in the beautiful scenery, dazzling marine life and some of the world’s finest beaches.

Visit Kings park

Visit Kings Park in Perth. The park is stunning and you can overlook the Swan River. This is the perfect location to check out the skyline of Perth city. Did you know what the park consists of more than 400 hectares and is even larger than New York’s Central Park?

See the Sunset

If you are visiting Perth you have to catch a sunset. The sunsets in Perth are legendary. They say the best view for the sunset is Cottesloe beach. It is around 15 min drive away from the centre and totally worth it!

Join a walking tour through the center

Just like Prague, Perth is perfect for a little stroll around the city. You can join a walking tour and get to know the city a little better. You will learn about the culture, history and you will visit the colourful parts of the city (not only the touristy parts). There is also a small bar tour available which departs, every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Explore the Swan River

There are multiple river cruises departing every day and it is the perfect way to explore the Swan River.

Go to the beach!

Compared to other big cities Perth has some beautiful beaches (i.e. Cottesloe, City Beach, Scarborough, Trigg, Leighton and Sorento). But keep in mind that like Byron Bay it is possible to get a little windy in the afternoon. Perfect for kitesurfing but less exciting if you just want to relax on the beach. Therefore, the best time to visit the beaches are the mornings!

Visit Wave Rock

Hyden is a small town, about a 4 hour drive away from Perth. From Hyden it is easy to visit Wave Rock. It isn’t surprising that Wave Rock looks like a giant wave. It is really impressive and definitely worth a visit!

Where to stay?

Most backpackers, who are travelling to Perth, stay at Perth City YHA. This is one of the best hostels in Perth. It even won an award! Perth City YHA is located in the centre of this exciting city. Moreover, they offer a swimming pool and a gym (for the sporty ones under us).
